SH0630 Automatic Bromine Value & Bromine Index Tester for Petrochemical Unsaturated Hydrocarbon Content Determination
The SH0630 automatic bromine‑number and bromine‑index tester works on the micro‑coulometric titration principle (coulometry). Once the specimen is dosed into the titration cell, unsaturated hydrocarbons within the specimen will react with bromine present in the electrolyte. The bromine number and bromine index of the specimen can be derived from Faraday’s law of electrolysis by computing electric power consumed during electrolytic bromine generation.
Its electrolytic cell is fitted with a custom‑made ceramic sand core as a replacement for conventional ion‑exchange membranes. This design simplifies routine maintenance, boosts measuring sensitivity, and delivers test data featuring superior stability, precision and reproducibility.
Bromine number (alternatively termed bromine value) quantifies unsaturated‑hydrocarbon levels inside organic substances. Bromine number denotes grams of elemental bromine depleted per 100 g specimen, whereas bromine index refers to milligrams of elemental bromine consumed for every 100 g specimen. Elevated bromine‑number or bromine‑index readings correspond to larger unsaturated‑hydrocarbon fractions and higher unsaturation levels in test samples.
For petroleum manufacturing, this parameter acts as a critical metric to evaluate petroleum product stability. It may also serve for rough assessment of product conversion efficiency in certain chemical workflows including long‑chain alkylation reactions.
