Product Description

The SH417 High Temperature High Shear Tester is designed and manufactured in strict compliance with the ASTM D5481 standard. It employs a multi-capillary viscometer system to determine the apparent viscosity of lubricants under high-temperature and high-shear-rate conditions, fully satisfying all technical requirements specified in the standard test method.
This instrument is suitable for measuring the apparent viscosity of lubricating oil at high temperature and high shear rate — namely, the dynamic viscosity of lubricating oil under such conditions, which is also defined as the HTHS index.
It is additionally applicable for determining the dynamic viscosity of lubricating oil at high temperature and high shear rate, as well as evaluating the high-temperature high-shear characteristics of lubricating oil, in accordance with the SH/T 0703-2001 standard Apparent Viscosity Measurement Method (Multi-Capillary Viscometer Method).
Its testing principle is as follows: The test is conducted at a controlled temperature of 150℃ ± 0.1℃. Driven by nitrogen (or carbon dioxide) pressure, the sample flows through the capillary viscometer. By measuring the sample’s flow time and the applied pressure, the apparent shear rate and corresponding apparent viscosity of the capillary viscometer can be derived. Combined with the calibration curves of various viscometer cartridges, the viscosity of the tested oil sample at the measured pressure can be calculated accurately.
