Inhibited mineral oil is a mineral oil product added with rust inhibitors, which is widely used in mechanical lubrication, industrial production and other fields. Its rust prevention performance is directly related to the service life and operational stability of equipment. In a working environment containing moisture, insufficient rust prevention ability of mineral oil will lead to corrosion of metal parts and equipment failures. Therefore, the detection of its rust prevention performance is crucial.
By determining the rust prevention effect of inhibited mineral oil in the presence of water, this experiment aims to evaluate whether the rust prevention performance of the oil product meets the standards. The experiment complies with the national standard GB/T11143-2008 "Test Method for Rust Prevention Performance of Inhibited Mineral Oil in the Presence of Water". The SH123 Automatic Liquid Phase Rust Tester is designed and manufactured in accordance with this standard, which can accurately complete the rust prevention performance detection.

Experimental Sample: Inhibited mineral oil
Experimental Instruments:
1.SH123 Automatic Liquid Phase Rust Tester
2.Auxiliary equipment such as test steel bars, beakers, beaker lids, stirring rods, 240-grit alumina sandpaper, distilled water (or synthetic seawater)
Operating Procedures
1.Polish the test steel bars with 240-grit alumina sandpaper. Clean the beakers, beaker lids and stirring rods, then place them in an oven to dry for later use.
2.Add water to the glass tank of the instrument to 3cm below the top, connect the power supply, and enter the startup interface.
3.Click the "Test Interface", set the target temperature to 60℃, click "Start Temperature Control", and enter the test operation interface after the water bath temperature stabilizes.
4.According to the requirements of the national standard, add 300ml of sample and 30ml of distilled water (or synthetic seawater) into the beaker, place the beaker in the corresponding test hole, and set a 24-hour test cycle.
5.Click the "Start" button of the corresponding hole. The instrument will automatically start stirring (rotating speed: 1000±3 revolutions per minute), enter the test process, and display the remaining time and stirring status in real time.
6.After the test is completed, the instrument will prompt completion. Take out the steel bars and observe the corrosion situation.
Data Analysis and Result Evaluation
Through the visual observation of the test steel bars, the judgment is made in accordance with the standard criteria: if both parallel test steel bars have no visible rust spots or streaks to the naked eye, the sample's rust prevention performance is judged as qualified; if both are corroded, it is unqualified; if one is corroded and the other is not, re-sampling and retesting are required for judgment. According to the corrosion degree, it can be divided into slight corrosion (rust spots ≤6, single diameter ≤1mm), moderate corrosion (rust spots >6 and area <5% of the steel bar area), and severe corrosion (corrosion area >5% of the steel bar area). For the inhibited mineral oil sample tested this time, both parallel test steel bars have no corrosion traces, which meets the requirements of GB/T11143-2008 standard and the rust prevention performance is up to standard.
