Determination Method for Density of Petroleum

Petroleum is an important fossil energy source, mainly composed of various hydrocarbons with different density characteristics. It serves as a crucial basic indicator for petroleum refining, storage and transportation, as well as product quality evaluation, and is widely used in energy, chemical and other fields.

Experimental Purpose

In the fields of petrochemical production and scientific research, determining the density of petroleum can clarify its material properties and quality indicators, providing key data support for the adjustment of production processes, product classification and control, and subsequent applications.

Experimental sample: Petroleum

Test instrument: SH102F Petroleum Density Tester

Notes

Before using the instrument, confirm that the working power supply is AC220V±5% 50Hz±5%, and the ambient temperature is maintained at 5℃~35℃ with humidity between 10%~80%; ensure the instrument is clean before the experiment to avoid corrosion by acids, alkalis, oil stains and humid gases.

Operation Steps

1. Connect the instrument to the power supply, turn on the device, wait for 2 seconds to automatically enter the test interface, and confirm that the color LCD touch screen displays normally.

2. Calibration preparation: Check the temperature control system of the instrument. If the temperature fluctuation of the constant temperature bath is large, turn on the heating self-tuning function to ensure the temperature control accuracy reaches ±0.1℃.

3. Sample preparation: Clean the density measuring cylinder with alcohol and petroleum ether, dry it in an oven, and pour an appropriate amount of petroleum sample into the cylinder.

4. Constant temperature setting: Set the test temperature (20℃ as standard) on the touch screen, turn on the heating or cooling device according to the current bath temperature. After the temperature stabilizes, set a constant temperature time of 10 minutes to balance the temperature of the sample and the water bath.

5. Density determination: Put a suitable hydrometer into the sample, avoid residual liquid on the dry tube, gently rotate it to make it float freely away from the cylinder wall. After all bubbles rise completely, read the scale value according to the corresponding method for transparent or opaque liquids.

6. Data processing: Input the measured density value on the interface. If the printing function is enabled, the instrument will automatically print the result. The records can be viewed, exported or deleted through the historical data interface.

The SH102F Petroleum Density Tester complies with the requirements of national standard GB/T 1884 "Test Method for Density of Petroleum and Liquid Petroleum Products (Hydrometer Method)" and SH/T2281 "Density of Coking Oil Products".
