I1SH135LAB Saybolt Chromometer

The SH135LAB petroleum product Saybolt colorimeter is used to measure refined liquid petroleum products, such as undyed motor gasoline, aviation gasoline, jet fuel, naphtha, kerosene, and medicinal white oil.

Saybolt color refers to the height of the liquid column measured when observed and compared with a standard color plate, which is closest to one of the three standard color plates. The Saybolt color number is specified as -16 (the darkest) to +30 (the lightest). The Saybolt Color test is used for quality control and product identification of refined products with an ASTM chroma of 0.5 or lower.

The determination of the color of petroleum products is primarily used in the control process of oil production. This is because color is an important quality characteristic of oil products and a feature that is easily observable by product users. In some cases, color can reflect the degree of refining of the product. For oil products with a known color range, if their color falls outside this range, it may indicate contamination.
