Determination of Salt Content in Crude Oil and Related Products

Overview

Crude oil is a complex mixture composed of various hydrocarbons and a small amount of non-hydrocarbon substances, which is widely used in petrochemical, energy and other fields. Salt content is an important quality indicator of crude oil and related products (such as topped crude oil, cracked residue oil, fuel oil, etc.). Its content directly affects the subsequent processing technology and product quality. The presence of salts such as halides may cause corrosion of processing equipment, catalyst poisoning, and affect the service performance of products. Therefore, accurate determination of salt content has important practical significance.

Experimental Purpose

By determining the salt content of crude oil and related products, the product quality can be evaluated whether it meets the industry standards, providing reliable data support for production and processing as well as quality control. This experiment is conducted in accordance with the People's Republic of China Standard GB/T6532 "Determination of Salt Content in Crude Oil and Its Products". The SH6532A Crude Oil Salt Content Tester is designed and manufactured based on this standard, specifically suitable for the salt content detection of such samples.

Experimental Samples and Instruments

Experimental Samples: Crude oil, topped crude oil, cracked residue oil, fuel oil, etc. (can be selected according to actual detection needs)

Experimental Instruments:

1. SH6532A Crude Oil Salt Content Tester (equipped with 2 sets of extractors, 500ml flasks, condensers, cylindrical dropping funnels and other supporting components), potentiometric titrator (optional)

2. Experimental reagents such as hot toluene, absolute ethanol, acetone

3. Auxiliary utensils such as 1000ml glass containers and 250ml ground conical flasks

Operating Procedures

1.According to the instrument installation requirements, correctly assemble the extractor, condenser, cylindrical dropping funnel and other components, connect the water inlet and outlet pipes as well as power lines, and ensure the instrument is properly grounded.

2.In accordance with the requirements of GB/T6532 standard, prepare the experimental samples and required reagents, and add the samples and reagents into the 500ml flask of the extractor in the specified ratio.

3.Turn on the instrument power switch, slowly rotate the voltage adjustment knob to gradually adjust to the required heating voltage (observe the voltmeter indication, range 0~210V), avoiding sudden increase of voltage to damage the components.

4.During the experiment, control the water inflow of the condenser through the water volume regulating valve to ensure effective condensation of the distilled gas, and complete the extraction, separation and other processes in accordance with the test steps specified in the standard.

5.After the experiment, first turn off the heating power supply. After the instrument cools down, sort out the experimental utensils, clean the relevant components, and do a good job in instrument maintenance.

Data Analysis and Result Evaluation

Through the detection of SH6532A Crude Oil Salt Content Tester, the total amount of halides with a concentration of 0.002~0.02% (by weight) in the sample can be accurately determined. Verified by multiple parallel experiments, the precision of the instrument's detection results meets the requirements of GB/T6532 standard, and the error is controlled within the allowable range. It can effectively judge whether the salt content of crude oil and related products meets the standards, and at the same time accurately identify whether the used turbine oil and marine fuel oil are contaminated by seawater, providing reliable guarantee for industrial production and quality control.
